The con season is officially over until Spring 2008.  See you then!

2008 New York Comicon
NEXT APRIL:  NEW YORK COMICON is organized by the same folks who do the world famous BOOK EXPO AMERICA every year, and they are currently building what will soon be the best comic book convention in the land.   But don't take my word for it-- I only attend 11 events a year.   Anyway, in the space of 365 days, the event has already doubled in size!  By next year, they will need to rent out the entire island of Manhattan!

OLD POSTS:

Comic Hey Hosers, TORONTO FAN EXPO is my next con.  I've never been to this show before, but I've heard nothing but good things about it!  So, I'll be coming up on Aug 24 - 26 -2007, and I can't wait to see what its all aboat.

The BIG MOTHER F'er is almost here!!  Wizard Magazine's flagship event is next--I'm talkin' about the biggest comic show in the land, people-- MIGHTY CHICAGO!!!  Hey, if you consider San Diego is now barely 50% comics orientated, that makes Chicago the biggest comics event, so don't show up if you are planning to have your left ass cheek signed by some has-been movie star.    I'll be there in full force--I might sign your right ass cheek if you pay me enough.  To celebrate this year's show, I'll be drawing 5 glorious sketches for the V.I.P. guests.  I can't reveal what I'll be drawing, but below is a peek at the stuff I did for the Wiz L.A. show earlier this year.  So sessy!  Look fer me in Artist Alley.
 TORONTO COMIC BOOK EXPO AUG 24 - 26   2007

This will be my first year attending the Comic book Expo in Toronto, Canada.  I've heard nothing but good things about this show, so I am really looking forward to it!

Next Con appearances:  WizChicago, Toronto, Sheboygan, Hoboken, and Moose Jaw
OLD--I have missed SAN DIEGO COMICON the last two years (like anybody noticed), but this year I will make it, and Borat is very happy. San Diego is the most hugest show in America and an awesome show!  Well worth the trip, and this year I have a booth because I am simply too large to contain.  Traffic is always brisk and the local fans are a treat to smell.  So, when the doors open, shove a blind kid out of your way and RUN to my booth 4905 (Big Wow Art).  You will not regret it!!

CHARLOTTE Also in June, I will be attending HeroesCon for the first time as a guest, thanks to promoter Shelton Drum.  This is a great moment for me, because this Charlotte event is actually the very first big show I ever attended-- way back in 1995!  Back then, I was walking the aisles and just looking for some hope, so it is great to come full circle 10 years later!

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON INTERNATIONAL       One of the biggest conventions in the world.  I've been going to this show every year since 1995.  That's about 50,000 miles in the air... so...I've flown around the earth twice getting to this show!  Anyway, it is very large--about the size of 5 Super Wal-marts, with attendance up over 80,000 people.

BALTIMORE COMICON    One of my favorite features of this convention is the beautiful hall it takes place in-- the roof is very impressive looking.  I've missed this show twice now due to hurricanes and ear infections.  Maybe i should just live there!  As some of you may know, I have missed the last two Baltimore shows--in 2003 Baltimore was hit by a hurricane and in 2004 I got hit by two!  This year, I'm pissed off and fired up--I've already set myself to get there no matter what!  If a hurricane is approaching, I'm going to leave 2 days early in a rent-a-car.  This year, I will be there!

DRAGONCON (Atlanta)   This Atlanta based con is tons of fun and covers more than just a few genres.  You'll find comics, gaming, fanatsy, sci-fi, TV, film, and toys at your disposal all weekend.  There is a great costume show on Saturday evening and in the morning there is a parade through the streets of Atlanta!  One year I watched about a  hundred stormtroopers marching behind Darth Vader--an awesome sight!  By the way, Did you know the mighty Klingon empire employs a Chevy Blazer, an ATV, and a Dodge Duster in their arsenal?  Oh, its true.

WIZARD WORLD (Chicago)  This is one of the biggest comic book conventions every year, and i love going to this one as it is heavily orientated towards actual comics.  Check out the Wizard gallery for some of the other nifty illustrations.

Mega Con Orlando   This show was one of my best to date and special thanks go out to Beth Widera who takes care of all the guests at this great convention.   I met Pablo Marcos, who inked Bushema's Savage Sword of Conan and Byrne's first run on the Avengers (the Count Nefaria issues) just to name a few.   He is still going strong, inking books for CrossGen.  The legendary Mad magazine and Groo cartoonist Sergio Aragones also attended-- you know you're a legend when you get a round of applause just for stepping onto the shuttle bus!  Anyway, this is  great con every year.

MID-OHIO-CON   Nov. 30- Dec. 1   I was a guest of this show thanks to Roger A. Price of WF Comics.   I had  never attended the Mid-Ohio-con before, but other pros told that its a great event and they were not lying.  The show is held in the lobby of a beautiful hotel--the decor is real cool 17th century style and the overall feel of this convention is like no other!

PITTSBURGH COMICON Apr 26- 28  My second Pittsburgh convention won't soon be forgotten.  On the last day at about 2:00, there was a quick storm and the lights went out for the rest of the show!   One guy was going through my paintings with a key chain flashlight!  It was surreal.   To make things worse, my shuttle bus was late and I had to run to my departing flight with my heavy bag.  By the time I got to the gate I was tired, hungry, and sweaty--I must have looked like a nervous terrorist because just as I was about to board, security pulled me to the side and did a random check on me!   Finally, I had to explain to them that I draw for Marvel comics (Luckily, I had Elektra copies in my bag).  They were slightly impressed and sent me on my merry way.  I was never so glad to get home.  Not that this was a bad show, in fact it was very good and I thank Michael and Renee George for setting up my table.   Anyway, my most memorable moment of the con was when George Perez (one of my childhood heroes) came to my table to tell me I'm doing a good job.  You can't get much higher praise than that.  Thanks, George.  Also, special thanks go out to Frank Wright, who was kind enough to drive me to Kinko's for much needed supplies.

STORE SIGNINGS>>>>

Store signing at THE COMIC BOOK STORE June 8...  (OCALA)-  This was my first store signing in a long time and I enjoyed the experience a lot.  Owner Jim Hermle made it very comfortable for me and after I loosened up a little, we were exchanging Indiana Jones quotes like long lost brothers while his customers stood there...shaking their heads in despair.   I was just about to do my famous Conan lines, when I spied my wife out of the corner of my eye...she was holding James' Thor hammer and she had "that look" and I knew it was time to have a seat.  Anyway, many thanks to James and his customers who seemed like one big family and really took care of us.

Store signing at ALL-STAR COMICS & GAMES in Mishawaka, Indiana  August 7th   This was a great signing, but the highlight was the Atari 2600 that Darin had in the back room.  After the event, I got to play all the old games like Space Invaders and Centipede.  I didn't realize this, but Atari had actually made DEFENDER for this console.  My question is--How the hell do you play Defender with only one button!?  Not only did All-Star Comics & Games invite me for a signing at their store, they also sponsoried me to attend the WIZARD WORLD con in Chicago.  That was a great weekend!  Thanks guys!

INDIANA Nov. 29th., 2003    Buymetoys.com  holds their big store signing every year starring Comicdom's living legend Alex Ross.  Alex's classic artwork has been a big influence on me over the last decade, and I'm happy to announce that I have been invited to join in on this year's event-
